It is important to tailor your skills section according to each job you are applying for because many employers use applicant tracking systems these days. These computer programs scan resumes and filter out those that don’t contain certain keywords or phrases related to the position being applied for.
Once listed here, it’s best practice to elaborate on the most relevant skills in other sections such as summary or experience – this will help demonstrate why you’re an ideal fit for that particular role.
Below is a list of common skills & terms:
- Animal Behavior
- Animal Care
- Animal Handling
- Animal Husbandry
- Animal Nutrition
- Animal Science
- Animal Welfare
- Communication

4. Education
Including an education section on your resume will depend on how far along you are in your career. If you just graduated and have no work experience, your education should be mentioned below your resume objective. However, if you have significant work experience to showcase, omitting the education section is perfectly fine.
If an education section is included, try to mention courses and subjects related to animal care that can demonstrate a commitment or interest in the field of study.
Associate Degree in Animal Science

5. Certifications
Certifications are a great way to show potential employers that you are knowledgeable and experienced in a certain field. Having certifications can give you an edge over other applicants, as it shows your dedication to staying up-to-date with industry trends and knowledge.
When applying for jobs, make sure to include any relevant certifications on your resume or cover letter so hiring managers know exactly what qualifications you have. This will help them determine if you are the best fit for the job.

6. Contact Info
Your name should be the first thing a reader sees when viewing your resume, so ensure its positioning is prominent. Your phone number should be written in the most commonly used format in your country/city/state, and your email address should be professional.
You can also choose to include a link to your LinkedIn profile, personal website, or other online platforms relevant to your industry.
Finally, name your resume file appropriately to help hiring managers; for Mara Muller, this would be Mara-Muller-resume.pdf or Mara-Muller-resume.docx.
7. Cover Letter
Providing a cover letter with your job application is a great way to make an impression. This document should be composed of 2-4 paragraphs and include information that isn’t already included in your resume.
A cover letter allows you to explain why you are the perfect fit for the role and provide recruiters with more insight into who you are as a professional. Although not always required, it could give you a significant advantage over other candidates applying for the same position.
Below is an example cover letter:
